How to Sell Notion Templates: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to build, share, price and sell Notion templates: the duplicate link, what to include, Notion Marketplace fees versus your own store, and how to get your first sales.

In short

  • A Notion template is sold as a link: buyers duplicate your page into their own workspace.
  • Build for one person and one job (a student's term planner, a freelancer's client tracker), not "life OS for everyone".
  • Notion Marketplace charges 8% plus $0.40 per sale and approves sellers from a waitlist; your own store lets you start today.
  • Show the template in use with a short video, and include a setup guide inside the template.

Notion templates are one of the most popular digital products for creators who are organised and like systems. People search for them every month, from students looking for study planners to freelancers who want a client tracker. This guide covers how to build a template people will pay for, how delivery works, where to sell it and how much to charge.

1. Pick one person and one job

The templates that sell are specific. "Notion template for students" and "Notion templates for productivity" get steady searches, but within those, a template that does one job well beats an all-in-one dashboard. Some examples:

  • A semester planner with classes, deadlines and grades for university students.
  • A content calendar for creators who post on two or three platforms.
  • A client and invoice tracker for freelancers.
  • A habit tracker with a weekly review.
  • A job search tracker with applications, contacts and follow-ups.
  • A reading list and book notes database.

2. Build it so a stranger can use it

  • Start with a "Start here" page that explains each part in a few lines.
  • Fill it with sample entries so buyers see how it should look, and tell them how to clear them.
  • Use database views (board, calendar, table) instead of many separate pages.
  • Avoid features that need a paid Notion plan, or say clearly if a feature does.
  • Test it by duplicating it into a fresh account and following your own instructions.

3. How delivery works

You don't send a file. You publish the template page to the web in Notion and turn on the option that lets visitors duplicate it as a template. That gives you a link: anyone who opens it can copy the template into their own workspace. Sell access to that link, and keep the link only on the page buyers see after paying.

4. Decide where to sell

Notion's help centre also says creators in countries it doesn't support for payments can still list paid templates on Marketplace, but buyers pay on a third-party site. Many sellers list their template on Marketplace for discovery and link to their own store for checkout. Etsy and Gumroad also sell Notion templates, each with their own fees.

5. Price it

Lite versionFreeCollect emails and show your style
Main template$15 to $29Your core product
Template + video walkthrough$39 to $49For buyers who want it set up fast
Bundle of all your templates$59 to $79Best value for fans

6. Show it in action

  • A 20- to 40-second screen recording of you using the template beats any screenshot.
  • Post the problem first ("I kept missing deadlines"), then show the template solving it.
  • Ask viewers to comment a word, such as PLANNER, and send them the link by DM.
  • Add three to five screenshots and a list of what's included on the product page.

Selling Notion templates on Insidemetics

We build Insidemetics, so we're biased. Add a product, paste your Notion duplicate link in the delivery link field, and buyers see it only after paying. You can offer the lite version as a free download that collects emails, and Instagram Auto DM sends your link to everyone who comments your keyword. Buyers pay into your own PayPal account, we take 0% of your sales, and the Free plan gives you 1 paid product with no card. Pro is $29 a month for more products, discount codes and order bumps.

Frequently asked questions

Can you make money selling Notion templates?

Yes, many creators sell them, but income varies widely. Templates for a specific group, shown in use on social media, tend to sell better than general ones.

How do I deliver a Notion template to a buyer?

Publish the page to the web in Notion with duplicating allowed, then give buyers the link after they pay. They duplicate it into their own workspace.

How much does Notion take when I sell on Marketplace?

Notion's help centre lists 8% plus $0.40 per transaction, and an extra 1% foreign exchange fee for creators outside the US. Selling directly needs approval from a waitlist.

Do buyers need a paid Notion plan?

Most templates work on Notion's free plan. If yours uses a feature that needs a paid plan, say so on the product page.

Can I sell templates made from someone else's template?

Only if their licence allows it. Build your own from scratch, and use only icons and images you have the rights to.
