In short
- Keep rules short, specific and numbered so moderators can point to one.
- Say what happens when someone breaks a rule.
- Paid communities need a refund and sharing rule too.
Clear rules make a community easier to run and fairer for members. Copy the template below into a #rules channel, change the bits in brackets, and pin it.
Template
- Be respectful. No harassment, hate speech, threats or personal attacks.
- Stay on topic. Use the right channel; off-topic chat goes in #general.
- No spam or self-promotion without permission, including DMs to other members.
- No sharing of paid content outside this server. [Course videos, files and posts are for members only.]
- Keep it safe for work. No explicit, violent or shocking content.
- Protect privacy. Don't share anyone's personal details or screenshots of private messages.
- No financial or medical advice presented as fact. Share experiences, not guarantees.
- Use English or [Hindi] in public channels so moderators can follow.
- Follow Discord's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
- Moderators have the final say. Questions about a decision go to [#mod-help], not public channels.
What happens if someone breaks a rule
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | A friendly reminder from a moderator |
| 2 | A formal warning, noted by the mod team |
| 3 | A timeout of [24 hours] |
| 4 | Removal from the server |
Extra rules for paid communities
- Say how billing works and how to cancel: "Membership renews monthly; cancel any time from the link in your receipt email."
- State your refund policy plainly, and match it to what your checkout page says.
- Explain what happens to access when a payment fails or someone cancels.
