How to Make Money on Instagram in India (2026)

Every real way to earn from Instagram in India in 2026: Gifts, Subscriptions, brand deals, UGC, and selling your own products, plus how to start with few or no followers.

In short

  • Instagram doesn't pay per view in India. Its own tools are Gifts (about 500 followers) and Subscriptions (about 10,000).
  • Brand deals and UGC videos pay without a follower minimum if you're good in one niche.
  • Selling your own product from your bio works from the first follower and usually earns the most per fan.
  • Comment-to-DM turns a reel's comments into link clicks without asking people to visit your bio.

There are five real ways to earn from Instagram in India. Two are Instagram's own tools, which need a minimum number of followers. The other three, brand deals, UGC and your own products, don't. Most creators who earn steadily combine at least two. Here's how each works, what it needs, and how to start.

1. Gifts on reels

Instagram launched Gifts in India in May 2023. Viewers buy Stars in the app and send them on your reels, and creators earn about US$0.01 per Star, paid monthly. You need a professional account, to be 18 or older, and to follow Instagram's monetization policies; creator guides list 500 followers as the usual minimum. Gifts reward reels people love, but for most creators they're pocket money rather than an income.

2. Subscriptions

India is one of the countries where Instagram offers Subscriptions. Subscribers pay a monthly fee for subscriber-only reels, posts, stories and lives. Guides list 10,000 followers, a professional account and age 18+ as the usual requirements. Check your Professional dashboard for “Set up subscriptions”.

3. Brand deals

Brands pay creators to feature a product in a reel, story or post. There's no fixed follower number: brands look for a clear niche, real engagement and an audience that matches their buyers. Small creators in one niche (skincare, fitness, finance, food in one city) often get paid work before larger general accounts do.

  • Put “For collaborations: your@email” in your bio.
  • Keep a one-page media kit: who follows you (age, cities), average reel views and two or three past examples.
  • Pitch brands you already use, with one specific idea, instead of asking “do you have any collabs?”.
  • Agree the deliverables, usage rights and payment date in writing before you shoot.

4. UGC videos for brands

UGC (user-generated content) creators make videos that brands post on their own accounts or run as ads. The brand pays for the video, not your reach, so follower count barely matters. It's one of the best ways to earn with a small account. Read our guide to becoming a UGC creator for how to price and pitch it.

5. Sell your own products

This is the one that grows with you. Put a store link in your bio and sell something your followers already ask you about: a guide, a plan, notes, templates, a reels bundle, a paid 1:1 call or a paid group. Fans pay by UPI and the money settles to your bank account; on Insidemetics there's no commission on top of Razorpay's gateway fee.

Why it usually earns the most per fan: if 1% of 2,000 followers buy a ₹299 guide, that's ₹5,980 (worked example). Earning the same from Gifts would take about 6,200 Stars at US$0.01 each, at about ₹96 per dollar.

How to make money on Instagram without many followers

  1. Pick one narrow topic you can post about every week: “budget meals for hostel students” beats “food”.
  2. Make a small free download for that topic (a checklist, a recipe card, a cheat sheet) to collect emails.
  3. Sell one low-priced product (₹99–₹299) to the people who download it.
  4. Offer UGC videos or a paid 1:1 call alongside, so you earn from skills, not just audience size.
  5. Post reels that answer one question each, and ask viewers to comment a keyword to get the free download.

Turn comments into sales with comment-to-DM

“Link in bio” loses people: they have to stop the reel, open your profile and find the link. Comment-to-DM sends the link straight to anyone who comments your keyword, using Instagram's official messaging API, so the click happens inside their DMs.
