In short
- Instagram doesn't pay per view in India. Its earning tools are Gifts, Subscriptions and brand deals.
- Gifts are commonly listed at 500 followers; Subscriptions at 10,000. Your Professional dashboard shows what's open to you.
- Brand deals have no fixed number. Small accounts in one niche get paid work.
- Selling your own product works from your first follower and usually pays more per fan.
There's no single follower count where Instagram starts paying you. Each way to earn has its own rules, and some don't need a big following at all. Here is what's available to creators in India, as published by Instagram and creator guides in 2026. Check your Professional dashboard for what your account can use.
| Way to earn | Followers | Other rules | How you get paid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gifts on reels | 500 (commonly listed) | Professional account, 18+, monetization policies | Fans send Stars; Instagram pays creators about US$0.01 per Star, monthly |
| Subscriptions | 10,000 (commonly listed) | Professional account, 18+, India is an eligible country | Monthly fee from subscribers for exclusive posts and lives |
| Brand deals | No fixed number | A clear niche and an audience that trusts you | Paid by the brand, directly or through an agency |
| Your own products | None | A store link in your bio | Fans pay you by UPI; the money goes to your bank |
Does Instagram pay for reels views in India?
No. Instagram doesn't pay creators in India a fixed amount per 1,000 views. Reels earn through Gifts (fans tipping with Stars), and indirectly by bringing you followers, brand deals and buyers. Bonus programs have run in some countries for invited creators, but there is no standing per-view payment you can apply for.
Gifts: from about 500 followers
Instagram launched Gifts in India in May 2023. Viewers buy Stars in the app and send them on your reels. Creators earn about US$0.01 per Star, paid monthly to their payout account. You need a professional account, to be 18 or older, and to follow Instagram's monetization policies; guides checked against Instagram's help centre in 2026 list 500 followers as the minimum.
Subscriptions: from about 10,000 followers
Instagram added India to Subscriptions in September 2023. Subscribers pay a monthly fee for subscriber-only reels, posts, stories and lives, and get a badge in comments. Creator guides list 10,000 followers, a professional account and age 18+ as the usual requirements. Look for “Set up subscriptions” in your Professional dashboard.
Earn before you reach those numbers
A few hundred followers who trust you can already buy something small. Many creators start with one of these, linked from their bio:
- A free download (a checklist or a short guide) to collect emails.
- A ₹99–₹499 digital product: notes, a plan, a template or a reels bundle.
- A paid 1:1 call for people who want your help directly.
- A paid Telegram or WhatsApp group for regular tips.

Selling your own product usually pays more per fan than tips. If 1% of 2,000 followers buy a ₹299 guide, that's ₹5,980. Earning the same from Gifts would take about 6,200 Stars at US$0.01 each (worked example at about ₹96 per dollar).
