In short
- Gumroad has no monthly fee. It takes 10% + $0.50 on each sale through your own link, and 30% on sales through its Discover marketplace.
- Gumroad's help center says card and PayPal processing aren't included in the 10% + $0.50.
- Since January 2025 Gumroad says it acts as merchant of record, handling sales tax and VAT where it has an obligation.
- Once you sell more than a few hundred dollars a month, a flat-fee store usually costs less.
Gumroad is one of the easiest ways to start selling digital products: there's no monthly plan, and you only pay when you make a sale. That makes the per-sale fee the whole story. This guide sets out what Gumroad charges, what you get for it, and how the cost grows as you sell more, using Gumroad's own pricing page and help center, checked in October 2026.
Gumroad's fees at a glance
| Where the sale comes from | Gumroad's fee | Payment processing |
|---|---|---|
| Your own profile or a direct link | 10% + $0.50 per sale | Charged on top, per Gumroad's help center |
| Gumroad Discover (its marketplace) | 30% per sale | Included, per third-party breakdowns |
| Monthly fee | None | Not applicable |
What a sale actually costs
| Product price | 10% + $0.50 | Share of the price |
|---|---|---|
| $5 | $1.00 | 20% |
| $10 | $1.50 | 15% |
| $20 | $2.50 | 12.5% |
| $50 | $5.50 | 11% |
| $100 | $10.50 | 10.5% |
The fixed $0.50 hits cheap products hardest. On a $5 template, Gumroad's fee is a fifth of the price before you've paid any card processing.
What the fee pays for
Gumroad's pricing page says that since 1 January 2025 it acts as merchant of record and handles sales tax collection and remittance where it has a tax obligation. For a creator selling to buyers in many US states, the UK and the EU, that's real value: you don't have to register for VAT abroad or track state thresholds yourself. If tax paperwork is what worries you most, that's a fair reason to accept a higher fee.
When a flat fee works out cheaper
| Sales a month | Revenue | Gumroad fee | Flat $29 plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | $100 | $12.50 | $29 |
| 15 | $300 | $37.50 | $29 |
| 50 | $1,000 | $125 | $29 |
| 100 | $2,000 | $250 | $29 |
At a $20 price, the flat plan wins at around 12 sales a month. Below that, Gumroad costs less. Your break-even point depends on your price, so try your own numbers:
