In short

  • Templates sell when they copy a system people already admire in your content.
  • Deliver Notion and Canva templates as a duplicate link inside a PDF, never as a public page.
  • Check Canva's licence rules before selling a design built with its elements.
  • A free mini version grows your list; the full system and bundles are the paid products.

Templates are one of the easiest digital products to start with. You've probably already built the system for yourself: a content calendar, a budget sheet, a study planner, an Instagram post layout. Selling it means packaging it so someone else can copy it in a minute.

What kinds of templates sell

TypeExamplesDelivered as
NotionContent planner, habit tracker, client portal, reading listDuplicate link

How to package a template

  1. Clean it up: remove your personal data and add example entries so it doesn't look empty.
  2. Add a short "start here" page explaining how to use it.
  3. Make the share link: Notion's "Duplicate as template", Canva's template link, or a Google Sheets link that forces a copy.
  4. Put the link inside a one-page PDF with instructions. Buyers download the PDF, so the link is only seen by people who paid.
  5. Record a two-minute walkthrough video. It answers most support questions before they're asked.

How to price templates

Price by the time and hassle it saves, not by how long it took you. A simple tracker is an impulse buy; a full business dashboard with instructions and a video is a considered purchase. A good structure is a free mini version, a paid core template, and a bundle of several templates at a better price.

Where to sell templates

Template marketplaces and Etsy can bring buyers through their search, with their fees on each sale. If you already post about productivity, design or business, your own store keeps more of each sale and gives you the buyer's email for the next launch. Show the template in action in your posts (a screen recording works better than a static picture) and link to it from your bio.

Frequently asked questions

Can someone just share my Notion template link?

They can, which is why the link should only be inside the file buyers download, not on a public page. Most buyers want updates and support, which a shared copy doesn't get.

Can I sell Canva templates?

Yes, as long as you follow Canva's licence for products made with it. Check its help centre before you sell.

Do I need to update my templates?

You don't have to, but sending buyers a free update is a good reason to email them, and a good way to sell your next template.
