YouTube doesn't pay per subscriber. It pays through the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), which has two levels, and each needs subscribers plus viewing over a set period. These are the thresholds as published in June 2026; check YouTube Studio's Earn tab for your channel.

What counts and what doesn't
- Only public videos count: private, unlisted and deleted videos don't add watch hours.
- Shorts views count towards the Shorts route, not the watch-hour route.
- You need an AdSense account and must live in a country where YPP is available; India is one of them.
Earn before you're monetised
Reaching 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours takes most channels months. Your first few hundred viewers already trust you, so many creators sell something small first:
- Study channels: notes PDFs, mock tests, or a ₹99 revision sheet
- Cooking channels: a recipe ebook or a weekend live class
- Fitness channels: a 30-day plan or 1:1 check-in calls
- Design and editing channels: presets, templates or a mini course
